The Full Tilt Poker Situation

The US government seized Fulltiltpoker.com on 4-15-11. Fulltilt banned US players, just like Pokerstars, and they got their domain back. This is where the story between these two online poker giants differs. Pokerstars quickly paid all US players in full and Full Tilt Poker didn’t. Several months later the Alderney Gambling Control Commission revokes Full Tilt’s license because of the non-payment issue. Full Tilt claimed that they didn’t the tens of millions of dollars to pay back their players.

A few months ago there were some rumors about Full Tilt finding an investor that would put up the cash to pay poker players at least some of the money owed. Nothing is concrete yet, but from what I have heard this deal is still in the works.

The Absolute & Ultimate Bet Situation

Sister sites Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet never got their domains back. They essentially just disappeared with everyone’s money and there has not been any talk about them making it right. To do the Poker Stars VIP program any justice would take 20+ pages. I will try to cram everything into this post to give you a general idea of just how beneficial this program is.

• VIP tiers – As I mentioned there are 6 tiers. The main benefit for each one is the FPP multiplier. Pokerstars basically awards two types of points: VPPs and FPPs. Your VIP level is determined by the number of VPPs you earn at the tables. You will not spend these points. They are used to track your VIP level and clear bonuses. When you first sign up you will receive 1 FPP for each VPP. As you move up the VIP ladder you can earn up to 5 FPPs for each VPP. These FPPs are going to be very useful later on. The non point related benefits include VIP freeroll and tournament entries.
• Stellar Rewards – There are two of these cash rewards available each year. They start once you have earned 750 VPPs and end when you have earned 100,000. Each reward ranges from $10 to $200 and even micro stakes and recreational players can expect to claim most, if not all $1,200 worth each year. Each one only costs 1 FPP and they are available in the VIP store.
• Milestone Cash Credits – This is where things get interesting. These cash credits are like Stellar Rewards on steroids. They start when you have earned 200,000 VPPs in a year and end when you have reached 3,000,000. The first credit is worth $2,600 and there are 16 all together. As you move up the values will increase. At 1,000,000 VPPs it jumps from $4,200 to $20,000. The next 8 cash credits are all either $9,200 or $19,200. There is a total of $136,800 in these cash credits available to each player each year. This is why I said you can lose every day and still walk away ahead if you play enough.

There is one other way that you can get cash. Each VIP level has a VIP reward bonus you can buy using FPPs. These range from $25 and go all the way up to $4,000. You can buy these as often as you like. These really come in handy when you are earning FPPs 5X faster than normal.

2012 NCAA College Basketball Picks

I have already placed a couple thousand worth of futures bets for the 2012 NCAA championship. I opted to make a few longshots, a medium probability bet and a large probable bet. Here are my picks:

• Kentucky – +535 – Bet $1,000
• Kansas – +2500 – Bet $400
• Duke – +950 – Bet $300
• LSU – +17,500 – Bet $100
• San Diego State – +12,500 – Bet $200

So that is an even $2,000 wagered. if you are unfamiliar with the way these basketball bets work I will explain below.

Lock Poker Review

Lock Poker is a very young poker room on the Merge network. This network is one of the few places American players are still playing at. They had to suspend new US signups due to the massive increase in traffic but are expected to resume in a matter of weeks. The platform Lock Poker uses, for the poker room, is unlike anything you will find at the older rooms like Party Poker or Poker Stars. They took an entirely different approach and most players are very pleased with it. The graphics are very nice but the true value lies in the custom features. Have you ever wanted to call someone a donkey? Sure you have and if you are like me you have done so countless times.

When you call someone a donkey or fish at Lock Poker it will generate a virtual donkey on the table, or a fish. Insulting poker players has never been so fun. There are many commands you can type in if you want to have an animation appear on the table. When I win a big pot or make a good play I like to type “shark”. This will cause a shark to swim around the table, for all to see. Lock Poker also has the rabbit feature. Let’s say you are HU with a guy and you are bluffing. If you can bluff him out of the hand you can use the rabbit feature to have the dealer deal the cards that would have come if you guys had played the hand out. I’m not aware of many poker rooms that offer this feature. You will see the pro’s request it on TV at the big poker tournaments but being able to do it whenever you want is pretty cool.

The median hand is thus a very rough K-high. The median is the “1299480th” hand, while the first pair is hand 1,317,888. Each rank comes in 1024 possibilities due to the suit assignments of the 5 cards. (1024=5^4.) So the median hand is the 18th worst K-high. Counting down from KQJT9 gives us KQJ87 (unless I made an off-by-one error or two or three.)
